Eli's first insult ...

Here's the thing with almost-two-year-olds, we're learning. They repeat everything you say. Everything other people say. Everything they hear on the radio. It was just the other day that Eli heard a radio commercial and has been yammering "dot-com," "dot-com," "dot-com" every so often.

So given that, let me try to reconstruct the events of Sunday, March 16, as closely as I can:

1. For the last month or so, Aunt Megan and Aunt Sarah have taken Eli on some exciting field trips, one to the Field Museum and another to a nearby childrens' museum. Fun-filled trips to be sure. Links here and here.
2. At some point during one of the afternoon excursions, the words "rat turd" slipped out of Megan's mouth. No one is quite sure what she was observing or commenting on.
3. Cut to today: Eli hanging out in Naperville with Grandpa Bill and Grandma Sharon. There was the regular Naperville fun: juice boxes, squirrels, flashing lights of assorted varieties, a button or two, turning lamps on and off.
4. Eli calls Grandpa Bill a "rat turd."

No photographs or audio or video recordings of the incident exist as far as we are able to ascertain, but we do have this photo from last Thanksgiving and Eli and Grandpa Ratturd.
